MATERIAL GUIDE / 6 MIN READ

How do you choose kitchen cabinet materials?

Kitchen cabinets need to look right and withstand everyday cleaning, moisture, heat and frequent use. A colour sample alone cannot answer every question. Start by considering how the kitchen will actually be used.

Completed furniture project

Start with the pattern of use

Cooking frequency, household size, storage and cleaning habits can lead to different choices. Gloss and matt doors also show daylight and fingerprints differently.

If the kitchen layout may still change, check door sizes and handle positions before confirming a surface finish.

Assess the carcass and doors separately

The cabinet body and visible door face serve different purposes. Strength, edge finishing and moisture risk matter for the carcass; appearance, cleaning and scratch expectations matter for the doors.

Rather than treating lacquer, acrylic, membrane and wood-look finishes as a simple ranking, compare them against budget and maintenance preferences.

Plan the wet and hot zones

Areas near the sink, dishwasher and hob face different conditions. Ventilation, edge details, appliance clearances and worktop joints should be shown clearly.

No material can compensate for poor detailing. Cutting, edge banding and installation quality all affect long-term performance.

Interior layout matters as much as appearance

Corner cabinets, tall larders, deep drawers and waste sorting affect everyday use. Frequently used items should sit at comfortable heights with adequate opening space.

Hardware type, load capacity and closing action can be itemised in the quotation.

Compare samples and quotations

A physical sample viewed in the room’s light gives a more reliable impression than a photo. Compare door material, carcass, worktop connections, runners, hinges, installation and stated exclusions.

LUVENSA reviews these choices alongside the room’s actual measurements and intended use before defining the manufacturing scope.
